CONSERVATION DETECTOR DOGS
Specializing in Wildlife Surveys

PACKLEADER's 2010 season had us working on a number of new applications. And we are already in the planning stages for 2011 projects -- with some exciting projects already scheduled and several in the planning stages. Be sure to contact us soon to get your project on the 2011 schedule.
During 2010 CJ was still working with Project Orianne on Eastern Indigo Snakes. In fact, this year he worked with them on a pilot project to determine the viability of using a CDD to locate eggs & nests. He went back in November to help find more snakes.
We have been involved in a couple of projects involving cougars -- a population survey in Nebraska and a long term project in Oregon where Chevy and Pepper were trained to find the remains of cougar kill. On the Oregon project the dogs are doing well and will be in the field for the next two years or so.
Bruiser and Claudia had to get permission from the King of Bhutan for Bru to work on a film project with BBC (a documentary on tigers and snow leopards) -they had a great experience in the field. They also finished Claudia's final field work on the Belize project.
Train and Dr. Karen DeMatteo helped us out by being the lead team in the Nebraska cougar population survey project for another client.
It's been a very exciting year for PACKLEADER, our clients and the dogs!! The dogs remain ready and anxious to get back in the field and new dogs have been added to meet the needs of our upcoming projects.
On a sad note, in 2010 we lost Fargo to cancer and Bru was injured and unable to continue working. Bru was retired to Claudia. He has nearly recovered from his surgery and is learning to be a pet dog and Claudia's constant companion. Please take a look at Fargo and Bru's pages to see the contributions these two great dogs made to the area of wildlife research. Both are missed.

Congratulations to Dr. Karen DeMatteo
who has recently been appointed Research Associate at St. Louis Zoo. This is in addition to her position as Research Associate at University of Missouri - St. Louis.(January 2011)
